Fresno Community Chorus Membership Guidelines

The goal for a singer’s membership in the Fresno Community Chorus is to plan on rehearsing and performing in all concerts for each season. The season typically runs from September thru May. The following guidelines are to assist you in understanding what is expected in order to make this coming season as successful as possible. Your cooperation in meeting these guidelines is an integral part of this chorus.

  • Membership dues for the 2008/2009 season are $50.00 per singer plus an estimated $15 in music costs.

  • You may be required to purchase music separately, over and above the membership dues. This amount will vary depending on the music chosen. An opportunity to return your music for a refund will be given in some cases. If you own any of the repertoire being used, please feel free to use your own copies.

  • Absences must be called in to your section leader prior to rehearsal time. If for any reason this can’t be done, please contact the section leader as soon as possible. You are responsible for obtaining information that may have been given during your absence, e.g., rehearsal markings on music.

  • No more than two (2) absences from rehearsals (per concert series) are accepted. An absence from dress rehearsal or concert may exclude you from that concert series entirely. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the conductor.

  • Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall at CSU Fresno, and ending at 9:40 pm. Please do not be late. This disrupts the entire rehearsal and is discourteous to the conductor and other members of the chorus. If you have to be late due to unforeseen circumstances, please enter rehearsal quietly, sitting in the back until there is a break in the music. When possible, please let your section leader know in advance if you must be late.

  • TURN OFF ALL CELL PHONES AND PAGERS during rehearsals. If you must leave your pager or phone on for emergencies or work-related matters, please put them on vibrate so they do not disrupt the rehearsal.

  • Concert attire: For men; black tuxedo, white shirt, black bow-tie, black shoes. For women; all black, preferably long sleeves (no sleeveless). Slacks okay, black shoes. No excessive jewelry (small earrings and necklace acceptable). Absolutely no perfume, cologne, or scented hairsprays during dress rehearsals and concert.

  • Solid black folders are required for performance. If you do not have one, obtain one prior to the first concert. Listen during rehearsals for the opportunity to purchase or borrow one.
